CRAFTING
ARCHITECTURAL SPACES
IN COLLABORATION
WITH NATURE.
Our devotion to craft and attention to detail help clients discover the unseen potential of their outdoor spaces.
At Land Design, we strive to give every client the most positive experience possible at each stage of the project. We do this by following a proven, carefully practiced process, grouped into four stages: Consultation, Site Analysis, Final Design & Construction Estimate and Installation. Our landscape architects, designers, and project managers work closely together at every stage to simplify the process for our clients.
Starting with a professionally designed plan is vital to creating a great landscape.
The Landscape Design Process
Creating a beautiful landscape design is a process.
It requires inquiry, planning, research, and proper execution.
1 – Questionnaire
We are often brought into a project early on as part of the design team.
Getting to know you and your property is an important step in the landscape design process.
In order to begin the design/build process, we ask that you contact us by calling or sending us an email. We will then send you a comprehensive questionnaire to help you organize your thoughts on paper. Your responses will acquaint us with your goals, style, and budget. This feedback will help us to conceptualize an environment truly tailored to your specific needs, lifestyle and wishes.
2 – Initial Conversation and Consultation
Lighting adds year-round interest
After contacting us, one of our landscape designers will discuss your project with you in order to determine how best to achieve your vision. A meeting will be scheduled at your home, at which time we will provide you with our company information as well as a landscape design questionnaire to establish your project budget, scope and other details. This meeting will also review the above mentioned questionnaire and determine whether or not your project requires a formal design.
Land Design always welcome your ideas as well.
3 – Site Analysis and Preliminary Design
Visually inspect the property to verify that existing site conditions are accurately shown on the property plats and/or plans provided by the client. Existing structures, spot grades, utilities, general soil conditions and over-all site conditions will be noted to determine the most appropriate use of landscaping plants, hardscaping products and construction materials. The site analysis is a detailed study of the property’s existing features including land formations, structures, plants to be retained or removed, and drainage considerations. This analysis is essential in order to develop a preliminary design. (We ask that you provide us with a property plat, a grading plan, and a house floor plan, if available.) Information gathered through this site analysis(pictures & measurements) will be incorporated into a preliminary design along with an estimated budget for each phase of the project. Feedback from the client at this stage is crucial.
The designer will also take pictures, measurements, and assess the environment to identify influential factors that will play a role in the development of your landscape.
Conceptual landscape plans shall be prepared using the base map information and will reflect client’s preferences as well as concepts of new design. Preliminary plans will be drawn to scale and will include general information regarding types of material, variety and size..
4 – Final Design & Construction Estimate
Final Landscape plans shall be prepared from preliminary plans, ideas and client feedback. Final plans will include too-scale working drawings with indicated location and specifications of all proposed materials. The master design will incorporate additional information and details identifying the specifics of all the planting and hardscape elements.
Land Design will provide a written proposal describing all costs, included work and specified materials for your review and approval. Projects are routinely broken down into logical steps and priced separately so that you end up with an itemized list that provides the specific costs to help you establish how the project can be implemented.
Dramatically focus attention to trees, yard art, architectural features, outdoor walkways, gardens and more.
5 – Installation of Your Project
Once a signed proposal is submitted with full deposit, our production team will begin to schedule your project, obtain any necessary permits, and order materials. Before any work begins, Land Design Designers will hold a pre construction meeting onsite, as needed, with you in order to assure a smooth order of events during the construction phases. They will also call Gopher State One to local underground utilities. During the course of the project, we encourage our clients to ask questions routinely. Revisions and adjustments can be made during the project but all additional work needs approval by the homeowner through the use of change order contracts. At completion of your project, you will be presented with a closing package to include a copy of your plan and contract, all care guidelines, warranty information, product information, as well as any project specific information that may prove important.
